Solomon Anointed King

1
Chapter 1
28 King David answered and said, "Call Bathsheba to me." She came before the king and stood before the king. 29 And the king swore and said, "As the LORD lives, who has redeemed my nephesh from all distress." 30 For just as I swore to you by the LORD God of Israel, saying, "Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne in my place," so I will do this day. 31 And Bathsheba bowed with her nose to the ground and prostrated herself before the king and said, "Long live my lord King David forever." 32 And King David said, "Call Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah son of Jehoiada to me." And they came before the king. 33 The king said to them, "Take with you the servant of your lord and make my son Solomon ride on the she-ass that is mine, and bring him down to Gihon." 34 There, Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet will anoint him as king over Israel. They shall blow the ram's horn, and you shall say, "Long live King Solomon." 35 You shall go up after him, and he shall come and sit on my throne, and he shall reign in my place. I have commanded him to be ruler over Israel and Judah. 36 And Benaiah son of Jehoiada answered the king and said, "Amen! May the LORD God of my lord the king say in this way." 37 Just as the LORD has been with my lord the king, so may he be with Solomon and magnify his throne above the throne of my lord King David. 38 Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and Pelethites went down. They rode Solomon on King David's mule and went with him to Gihon. 39 And Zadok the priest took the horn of oil from the temple and anointed Solomon, and they blew the shofar, and all the people said, "Long live King Solomon!" 40 All the people went up after him, playing pipes and rejoicing greatly, and the earth split open at their voice. 41 And Adonijah and all the invited guests who were with him heard it as they finished eating. And Joab heard the sound of the shofar and said, "Why is the sound of the city humming?" 42 While he was still speaking, behold, Jonathan son of Abiathar the priest came and said, "Adonijah says, 'You have come, for you are a man of might and good; you will bring good news.'" 43 Jonathan answered and said to Adonijah, "No, our lord King David has made Solomon king." 44 The king sent him—the king—with Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites. They rode him on the king's mule. 45 They anointed Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet as king at Gihon. And they went up from there rejoicing, and the city sounded. It is the voice that you heard. 46 And Solomon also sat on the throne of the kingdom. 47 And also the servants of the king came to bless our lord King David, saying, "May God make the name of Solomon better than your name, and may he magnify his throne more than your throne." And the king bowed himself on the bed. 48 The king also said, "Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, who has given one today who sits on my throne, and my eyes have seen it." 49 And all the guests of Adonijah trembled and arose, and they went, each man to his way. 50 And Adonijah feared Solomon and arose and went and took hold of the horns of the altar. 51 He told Solomon, saying, "Look, Adonijah fears King Solomon, and look, he has seized the horns of the altar, saying, 'May King Solomon swear to me today that he will not put his servant to death by the sword.'" 52 Solomon said, "If he becomes a son of might, not a hair of his will fall to earth, but if evil is found in him, then he will die." 53 And King Solomon sent and brought him down from the altar. He came and bowed down to King Solomon, and Solomon said to him, "Go to your house."
